Major League Quidditch is a national league. We aim to present quidditch in an elegant, highly-consumable form that mirrors other top sports leagues. MLQ will feature standardized schedules, high-level officiating, in-depth statistics and live or pre-recorded footage of all games. However, we cannot do it alone. Our company is seeking individuals to fill a variety positions.

DIVISIONAL STATISTICS ANALYST

MLQ Statistics Analysts are members of the MLQ Statistics Team in the Gameplay Department and report directly to MLQ Statistics Coordinator Joshua Mansfield. Analysts coordinate the aggregation of statistics and design higher-level statistical analysis for the league.

General Responsibilities

  • Analyze league metadata to produce informative and novel data representations for public distribution.
  • Develop and standardize gameplay metrics and statistics.
  • Develop creative and improved aggregation systems for league data.
  • Produce training materials to familiarize others with the taking of MLQ statistics.
  • Coordinate with MLQ Team Statisticians to ensure that statistics are taken in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Be creative and willing to develop new methods for quidditch data analysis.

Experience

  • Experience with statistical analysis or data collection.
  • Familiarity with the sport of quidditch.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Prior experience as a player or coach preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

  • Interest in data, statistics and their collection and analysis.
  • Comfortability with Google Suite (Docs, Spreadsheets, Hangout etc.), Skype and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and high responsiveness to email and other messaging platforms.

DIVISIONAL REFEREE LEAD

Divisional Referee Leads report to MLQ Referee Coordinator Clay Dockery. They work in conjunction with members of the MLQ Events and Gameplay Departments to ensure that referees are trained, scheduled and monitored on an ongoing basis.

General Responsibilities

  • Schedule referees for the 2017 MLQ season, with a focus on their respective division.
  • Foster strong relationships with referees.
  • Maintain referee contact information.
  • Provide input on referee training materials and standards.
  • Submit payment invoices to the MLQ Finance Department on behalf of referees.
  • Monitor referee performance to ensure quality standards are being met.
  • Maintain an open channel of contact with the MLQ Manager Relations Coordinator to track submission of referee reviews.

Experience

  • Excellent  organizational, written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure.
  • At least one year of experience in either quidditch refereeing and/or scheduling.
  • Excellent listening and comprehension skills required.

LOGISTICS LEAD

The MLQ Logistics Lead will be responsible for securing, setting up and storing all tangible equipment necessary for the MLQ Championship Weekend, including field equipment, film/media equipment, staff equipment and various other tournament needs. The MLQ Logistics Lead will manage a sizeable budget, maintain regular contact with other MLQ and Championship staff and interface with vendors to ensure that the tournament has everything necessary to run smoothly. The MLQ Logistics Lead will report to MLQ Tournament Coordinator.

General Responsibilities

  • Secure all necessary game equipment (hoops, balls, brooms etc.).
  • Secure all necessary film media and recording equipment (cameras, chargers etc.).
  • Secure all necessary spectator equipment (chairs, tables, shade structures etc.).
  • Secure all necessary staff equipment (radios, PA system, check-in materials etc.).
  • Manage a sizeable budget for the procurement of equipment.
  • Manage event set-up, teardown and equipment storage.
  • Coordinate operation of city-owned equipment on the day of the event.

HOSPITALITY LEAD
The MLQ Hospitality Lead is responsible for the guest experience at the MLQ Championship, including players, spectators and volunteers. The MLQ Hospitality Lead will recruit and manage a team of volunteers, interact directly with vendors and partners in the hospitality industry, and develop programs and services for players, fans and volunteers to most enjoy their experience. The MLQ Hospitality Lead will report to the MLQ Tournament Coordinator.

General Responsibilities

  • Team services: Prepare teams for the 2016 MLQ Championship, distribute information and answer questions.
  • Guest relations: Manage the Guest Relations booth at the MLQ Championship, distribute information pamphlets and explain the sport to new spectators.
  • VIP services: Develope our VIP experience and ensure that VIP guests are enjoying the event.
  • Restaurant and food vendors: Work with the MLQ Partnership Coordinator to help distribute discounts on food for players and volunteers.
  • Afterparty: Plan the post-tournament celebration.

Experience

  • Strong organizational, excellent written and oral communication skills are required.

  • Experience managing a small budget.
  • Excellent computer and typing skills are required. Google docs proficiency desired.

VOLUNTEER LEAD

The MLQ Volunteer Lead will be responsible for managing the day-of event volunteers across all departments. The MLQ Volunteer Lead will recruit volunteers, develop the volunteer schedule and maintain communication with our volunteer force for MLQ Championship Weekend. The MLQ Volunteer Lead will report to the MLQ Tournament Coordinator.

General Responsibilities

  • Assess volunteer needs for MLQ Championship Weekend.
  • Compose listings for and recruit volunteers for MLQ Championship Weekend.
  • Maintain record of all volunteer applicants.
  • Assign volunteer responsibilities across multiple facets of the event.
  • Create and maintain volunteer schedule for MLQ Championship Weekend.
  • Manage and serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers before, during and immediately following MLQ Championship Weekend.
  • Provide direct oversight to field managers during MLQ Championship Weekend.

SERIES COORDINATOR

The position of the MLQ Series Coordinator is designed to provide logistical support in line with the operational requirements of each MLQ regular-season series. The series coordinator will be directly responsible for the initial coordination of each MLQ regular-season series and working with the MLQ Manager Relations Coordinator and MLQ Team Managers to ensure each series is a success. The MLQ Series Coordinator will report directly to the MLQ Events Director.

General Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in the coordination of all MLQ regular-season series.
  • Liaise with the MLQ Manager Relations Coordinator and MLQ Team Managers to ensure the following:
    • All series are coordinated to the standards expected by MLQ.
    • All equipment belonging to MLQ is returned at the end of each season to appropriate parties.
    • All scorecards are scanned and filed within 48 hours of a series.
    • All footage is submitted to MLQ Video within 48 hours of a series.
  • Create and maintain the regular-season gameplay schedule and volunteer assignments based on communication with MLQ officials coordinators.
  • Review and approve or deny all regular-season schedule waivers.
  • Assist Team Managers in the choosing of series fields/venues.
  • Work alongside the MLQ Events Director and MLQ Gameplay Director in the continued development of the policies and procedures specific to series hosting, thus maintaining and enhancing the professional nature of events.
  • Liaise with the MLQ social media team and web administrator to ensure that all series results are posted to mlquidditch.com.
  • Set deadlines and follow up with the MLQ Gameplay Department regarding volunteers for each series. It is ultimately the responsibility of the MLQ Series Coordinator to ensure all volunteers are assigned properly and aware of their assignments.
  • Work with the MLQ Manager Relations Coordinator to develop and promote hosting workshops and materials designed to train volunteers.

GAMEPLAY
Head Referee
Head referees are the authority on the quidditch pitch. They are ultimately responsible for the safety of players, field staff and spectators in addition to control of the game. They must be adept in making quick, authoritative calls with the input of their referee team. MLQ Championship head referees must have an above average knowledge of USQ Rulebook 10 and MLQ-specific rules.
Candidates must also communicate with event staff and know when to call upon the MLQ Officials Coordinator for assistance.
MLQ Championship head referees must possess US Quidditch certification under USQ Rulebook 10. They will be compensated $30 per game.

Assistant Referee
Assistant referees are responsible for aiding the head referee in officiating play in quaffle and bludger play as the head referee sees fit. Assistant referees are compensated $10 per game.

Snitch Referee
Snitch Referees are responsible for ruling on snitch grabs as well as rules violations and administration around the snitch. The snitch referee may also be given assistant referee responsibilities during the seeker floor. Snitch referees are compensated $10 per game.

Goal Judge
Goal Judges are responsible for tracking shots and aiding the head referee in determining whether they successfully passed through the hoops. They are also responsible for tracking loose quaffles near the hard boundaries.

Snitch Runner
The snitch runner must be an impartial, non-player. They ideally will be able to provide their own pair of snitch shorts for the events. They must have prior experience snitching and knowledge of snitch runner and seeker rules under USQ Rulebook 10 and MLQ. They will be compensated $15 per game.

Scorekeepers
Scorekeepers are responsible for accurately updating the score and maintaining the scorecard for a match. This includes all goals, penalties and any other relevant information.

Timekeepers
Timekeepers are responsible for accurately keeping the game time including regulation time, penalties and releasing the snitch runner and seekers.


MARKETING
Photographers
MLQ photographers are responsible for producing and editing high-quality images of the MLQ Championship in real time. They will receive their assignments prior to the event from the MLQ Championship Photo Editor and be required to submit images throughout the weekend to be used for social media. Prior experience shooting sports is required.

Championship Commentators
MLQ Championship commentators will have live microphones and will give game updates to the fans watching at home. Commentators will give play-by-play and color commentary to add to the film experience.

Copy Editor
Copy editors will be responsible for editing and posting articles submitted by writers on-site. They will report directly to Media Coordinator Jack McGovern. Applicants must be familiar with AP Style and have previous editing experience. On-site editors are preferred, but the right candidate may work remotely.

Writer
Writers will watch and takes notes on games, conduct interviews with players and staff, and write and submit content on-site at the MLQ Championship. They will report directly to Media Coordinator Jack McGovern. Writers must be familiar with AP Style, comfortable interacting with multiple personalities, be able to bring their own laptop and be familiar with Google docs.

Ticketing Lead
The Ticketing Lead will ensure that all ticketing booths are fully staffed and functioning. They will work with the Volunteer Lead to communicate and coordinate with volunteers.

Ticket Sales Assistants
Ticketing assistants will be posted at the entrance of the facility in order to check that guests have their tickets to gain entrance to the park, as well as to sell tickets to guests who have yet to purchase them.

Merchandise Sales Assistants
Merchandise sales assistants work with the MLQ merchandise tent. They help organize inventory, explain and showcase offerings to customers and do other things to assist the sales process.

Video Editor
The Video Editor works to ensure that the fans at home are able to have an engaging and entertaining experience. They are responsible for coordinating the filming and live streaming of all of the games.

Videographers
Videographers film matches on a high quality camera for upload to the MLQ youtube channel at a later date. Experience filming quidditch is required.

Livestreamers
Livestreamers will be responsible for filming quaffle play in a way that is consumable to the viewer. Experience filming quidditch is required.

Social Media Correspondents
Social media correspondents will be responsible for staying active on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Periscope throughout the event and interacting with fans.


HOSPITALITY
VIP Lead
The VIP Lead is responsible for developing the VIP experience for MLQ Championship. They work with the Logistics Lead to secure any necessary materials to make the VIP experience an incredible one. Candidates should have prior customer service experience and a creative mind for creating the VIP vision.

VIP Assistant
MLQ Championship VIP assistants will work directly with the MLQ Championship VIP Lead to provide VIP ticket holders with the ultimate MLQ Championship experience. This includes but is not limited to answering questions, managing VIP area admission, handing out VIP gifts, dishing out the VIP lunch and maintaining the cleanliness of the VIP area. Candidates should have prior customer service experience and an outgoing personality.

Teams Services Representatives
MLQ Championship Team Services Representatives will work with the MLQ Hospitality Lead to design our teams’ experience, oversee our Player Lounge and conduct player check-in.

Guest Services Team
Members of the MLQ Championship Guest Services Team will be stationed around the spectators areas in order to provide fans with general assistance and information on the sport.

Vendor Lead
The Vendor Lead secures additional vendors for MLQ Championship. They are responsible for communication with vendors as well as all logistics related to vendors booths.

Vendor Assistants
Vendor assistants help coordinate any setup or vendor needs throughout the tournament. They will assist the Vendor Lead with any logistics or onsite vendor questions.

Kidditch Lead
The Kidditch Lead is in charge of the organizational aspects of kidditch. Coordinating everything from volunteers to equipment, the Kidditch Lead makes sure the event will be fun for all who participate!

Kidditch Assistants
Kidditch volunteers are in charge of running a youth quidditch pitch during a break in Championship gameplay. Volunteers teach the kids how to play quidditch, set up scrimmages, showing them drills etc.

After Party Planning Team
The After Party Planning Team will coordinate with the MLQ Hospitality Lead  to design and execute the event after party.


LOGISTICS
Field Manager
Field managers are key to games running smoothly and on-time. They are responsible for ensuring referee staff and teams are stationed at the proper fields at the assigned time. They must have excellent communication skills as they will be responsible for communicating all relevant happenings and all scores to the rest of MLQ Championship event staff.MLQ Championship field managers must be non-players, well-organized and authoritative.

Volunteer Assistants
Volunteer assistants work with the Volunteer Lead to complete volunteer schedules and manage MLQ Championship volunteers day-of.

Equipment Manager
The Equipment Manager will maintain responsibility for  equipment and repairs of such for the duration of the event.

Set It Up Squad
The MLQ Set It Up Squad assists MLQ Championship staff with the setup of the tournament site, including preparing the fields and hospitality areas, on Friday, April 11.

Tear It Down Team
The MLQ Tear It Down Team will assist MLQ Championship staff with the breakdown of the tournament site the night of Sunday, Aug. 13.

Runners
Runners are non-players readily available to help MLQ Championship staff wherever needed. Their primary job will be to transport items to and from the multi-purpose room, cars and fields. Candidates must be able to lift up t0 40 lbs.

Event Security
MLQ Championship Event Security will oversee the security of the Players's Lounge and other key tournament areas.

GENERAL ACCOUNTS COORDINATOR

The MLQ General Accounts Coordinator is responsible for building engaging and sustainable partnership accounts in conjunction with the MLQ Partnership Accounts Managers and the MLQ Athlete Advancement Program Manager. This position focuses on building successful relationships with multiple companies and donors in an effort to maximize the support given to our member teams. The MLQ General Accounts Coordinator will report directly to the MLQ Finance Director.

General Responsibilities

  • Work with the MLQ Partnership Accounts Managers and the MLQ Athlete Advancement Program Manager to strategize, set, communicate and implement plans and goals related to garnering partners and donors each season.
  • Nurture partnerships with current funders.
  • Strategize and pitch customized partnership opportunities to major partners.
  • Attend partner events.
  • Research potential funders for MLQ Partnership Accounts Managers to contact.
  • Create and maintain an internal directory of all standing MLQ partners and potential MLQ partners.
  • Write acknowledgement letters as needed.
  • Produce briefing materials, proposals and solicitation letters as needed.
  • Keep abreast on giving trends and key donors in the sport.

Experience

  • History of growing relationships, particularly in the fundraising sector.
  • Experience negotiating sales, recommitments or other revenue-generating activities.

PARTNERSHIP ACCOUNT MANAGERS

An MLQ Partnership Account Manager will create and oversee the strategy and execution of partnerships throughout the entire sales process lifecycle of successful relationships. This position focuses on building successful relationships with multiple companies and will ultimately take the lead on the lifecycle of the assigned partnership accounts, including form submission and renewal processes. The MLQ Partnership Account Managers will report to the MLQ General Accounts Coordinator.

General Responsibilities

  • Identify and solicit individual and corporate partner prospects.
  • Act as a liaison, interacting and managing assigned official partnerships and working to uncover additional opportunities to generate revenue.
  • Collaborate with marketing and finance departments to activate and monetize full value of partnerships.
  • Manage the partnership renewal process in tandem with our seasonal schedule
  • Develop sales and partnership proposals/presentations to secure new business and event partnerships.
  • Maintain a calendar tracking communications and fulfillment.

Experience

  • Experience creating digital partnership proposals.
  • Proven track record of securing partnerships for a club, team or company.

PLANNING AND BUDGETING COORDINATOR

The MLQ Planning and Budgeting Coordinator will report to the MLQ Finance Director. They will be responsible for preparing the annual budget, in conjunction with the various MLQ department directors, and following up on its implementation after it has been duly approved.

General Responsibilities

  • Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation.
  • Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the MLQ Board of Directors and MLQ Management.
  • Prepare the MLQ Championship budget in consultation with the MLQ Events Director.
  • Maximize income and cut costs where possible and appropriate.

Experience

  • Pursual of or a degree in Finance strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Proven ability to create and manage a budget.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of generally accepted finance and accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of Google spreadsheets.
  • Strong oral communication skills.

TEAM STATISTICIAN

MLQ Team Statisticians will be in charge of tracking and documenting individual statistics for players on their team using recorded gameplay footage and will report to their team's MLQ Manager. These statisticians will be trained by and coordinate with the MLQ Statistics Department in order to produce standardized, high-quality statistics. It is suggested that every team provide a statistician for beater statistics and a statistician for chaser statistics.

General Responsibilities

  • Participate in a training session on MLQ statistics and learn how to accurately and efficiently track individual stats.
  • Watch game footage and track statistics for their team after each of their team’s series.
  • Submit statistics via the predetermined format by the allocated deadline.
  • Maintain a direct line of communication with MLQ Statistics Analysts throughout the season to address any unforeseen occurrences.

Experience

  • Prior experience watching quidditch and quidditch film.
  • Familiarity with the position for which you intend to track statistics.
  • Basic knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to set and meet tight deadlines.
  • Comfortability watching four or more hours of film throughout the course of the season.
  • Stable internet access.
  • An enthusiasm for statistics and analytics in quidditch.

TEAM VIDEOGRAPHER

MLQ Team Videographers will be responsible for filming and uploading game footage for each home MLQ series their team plays. For away series, if possible, the videographer will travel with their team and be responsible for assisting the home team’s videographer by streaming the series. MLQ Team Videographers will be trained by the MLQ Gameplay Video Producer and report directly to a team's MLQ Manager.

Two MLQ Videographers will be needed in each of the following cities, unless otherwise indicated:

General Responsibilities

  • Charge and prep all GoPros and other video equipment the night before game day. This may include charging additional video equipment and clearing out SD cards.
  • Arrive at least one hour prior to all home series and immediately begin setup and troubleshooting of GoPros, HD camera(s) and live streaming.
  • Oversee the GoPros, HD cameras and live streaming during the series, filming the entirety of every home series match.
  • Commentate the score and, if possible, other basic statistics, throughout each game for the HD camera and live streaming film.
  • Ensure there are no technical issues during filming.
  • Upload all game footage to a location provided by MLQ within 48 hours of the conclusion of a home series. Archive the master copy of each game’s footage as dictated by the MLQ Gameplay Video Producer.
  • Ensure the successful mail reception and send-off of any GoPros, HD cameras or other video equipment provided by MLQ, confirming reception upon arrival and mailing to pre-appointed parties within 48 hours of the conclusion of a home series. Submit all relevant receipts for reimbursement to finance@mlquidditch.com.

Experience

  • Knowledge of GoPros and other basic video equipment or a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of YouTube Live, Facebook Live and Livestream or a willingness to learn.
  • Prior videographer experience preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

  • Comfortability commentating at least basic information throughout games. This includes but may not be limited to stating the score after every goal or every minute.
  • Stable internet access and access to a computer or computer equipment with the capability of uploading video from SD cards or microSD cards.
  • Access to an iOS or Android device that can be used to live stream video on a pre-determined live streaming app.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong listening and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate in a timely fashion with the MLQ Gameplay Video Producer and MLQ Gameplay Director.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) are responsible for the protection of life and wellness in compliance with local, state and federal policies and procedures. All staff EMTs must possess all EMT certifications required by a team’s home state. Managers will provide their healthcare providers with a medical equipment bag if the healthcare providers are not equipped with one meeting MLQ requirements. 

One EMT or athletic trainer (see next listing) will be needed in each of the following cities and will be paid $20 per series worked:

General Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the attitude of a healthcare professional,  including but not limited to, maintaining a clean appearance; demonstrating courteousness; displaying professional and ethical behavior; and demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively.
  • Ability to quickly respond to medical emergencies on-site at MLQ series.
  • Ability to perform all key responsibilities of an EMT.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, family members, medical personnel and the general public in verbal and written form.
  • Completion of MLQ PCRs immediately following an injury.
  • Ability to dedicate up to four hours per each series, with a max of two series throughout the season.

Experience

  • Valid state certification required.
  • Prior experience with quidditch or another full-contact sport recommended, but not required.

ATHLETIC TRAINER

MLQ Athletic Trainers will work closely with managers, coaches and athletes in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for MLQ athletes during their assigned series. They will report directly to MLQ Managers.

  • Assume responsibility for the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries.
  • Record and submit medical information.
  • Possess and comply with appropriate state certifications and licensures.
  • Maintain communication and a cooperative relationship with coaches, managers, players and MLQ staff.
  • Create and maintain athletic-training programs for players.
  • Comply with all MLQ rules, regulations and policies.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus experience as an Athletic Trainer. Additional related education may substitute for the required experience on a year-to-year basis.
  • Must be licensed as an Athletic Trainer within the United States and possess proper state certification.
  • Prior experience with quidditch or another full-contact sport recommended, but not required.
