Last week, the MLQ Gameplay Department announced its first major change to the sport with the addition of timeouts. This week, our talented team of veterans in the world of gameplay policy is excited to announce a second.

The value of the snitch grab in our sport has long been debated by our player base, with many finding it to be too overvalued or game-deciding. In a nod to such concerns, the 2015 MLQ season will be played with no snitch in the overtime period.

All overtimes will feature 5 minutes of quaffle and bludger play, with the game ending at the 5-minute mark. If double overtime is needed, the snitch will be returned for that period. This change will have no effect on the rules of the regulation period.

Our gameplay team is excited to see how the new policy will play out and encourages commentary on the subject from both the player and fan bases. We hope to make this MLQ season one of the most exciting and well-run in quidditch history and cannot do it without your help.

See you on the pitch!

I don’t like this change. Every sport has some sort of gimmick that really sets the sport apart from others, and for quidditch, that is the snitch. Taking it out of overtime is going to change those periods immensely. I also feel like this is going to be a slippery slope, in the sense that people will start saying “Well we don’t have them in overtime, so why do we need them in regulation?” Removing the snitch makes quidditch similar to so many other games, taking away its novelty and excitement. If you really want to make a change, get rid of brooms and let us tackle with two hands.

I am quite interested to see how this change comes into effect. I like the fact MLQuidditch is trying to make a league with standards. I also like the fact that there are implementing a form of timeout which I reckon is needed in a game of Quidditch in general. Keep up the good work!!!

If you really want to change it, change it to the snitch being worth 10 or 20 points in overtime? So that it’s balanced out more? But please don’t kill the snitch…

Well i agree to a certain point with you but i really dont understand what you said at the end, using no brooms and two hands tackle. You just said at the begining that snitch is what made this spor original and yet you would like to see brooms being removed and 2 handed tackles so basically rugby, it makes absolutly no sense.
To come back to the subject of removing snitch on onvertime i dont really have a specific opinion, i understand both views for and against but cant choose one.
