After the unprecedented pandemic that brought sports leagues across the world to a halt, MLQ re-evaluated what the bidding process would be for the 2021 MLQ Championship.
After discussions with the director team and partners, we decided to grant the bid to Howard County, Md., as they did not get the opportunity to host in 2020. We are excited to announce that MLQ has partnered with Visit Howard County to host the 2021 MLQ Championship on Aug. 20-23, 2021.
“I’m extremely excited that we are getting a second chance to bring MLQ to Howard County. The county has been incredibly welcoming to us in every way,” said Commissioner Ethan Sturm. “Every last detail of the Troy Park complex, from the press boxes to the support structures, was so carefully designed that I know we will be able to run our most successful championship yet. I cannot wait for our players, fans and staff to come and experience everything Howard County has to offer.”
Howard County, the center of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Region, consistently tops Money Magazine’s list of Best Places to Live in the U.S. It boasts a dynamic community, scenic landscapes and a variety of small businesses.
The event site will be Troy Park, the location of the 2018 USQ Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. Operated by Howard Country, it is a state-of-the-art facility offering four lighted, full-sized turf soccer fields; an elevated press box; and plentiful spectator seating. It is just a 16-minute drive from the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. For the 2021 championship, the primary Stay and Play hotel is the DoubleTree by Hilton Columbia which is within 15 minutes of the complex.
More information on the 2021 MLQ Championship will be announced in spring 2021. Additional questions can be directed to Events Director Emily Hickmott at [email protected].
