We at MLQ are incredibly enthusiastic about the crop of new summer teams, including the Minnesota Voyageurs and the Orlando Sirens, popping up across the country. While these teams are unaffiliated with our organization, we are always encouraged to see members of the quidditch community taking the initiative to increase the number of competitive opportunities available to players.

While we are an exclusive league, we recognize the massive value continued practice and play can offer during the summer months and will actively follow these new teams as they further break down the barriers to play in the summer season.

All of that being said, it is also important to note that, currently, we have no defined plans for expansion going forward. Our directors assess the possibility and need for expansion on an annual basis, always focusing on our core directive to present quidditch in an elegant, highly-consumable form. While we recognize the potential benefits of expansion, we will not go through with it if we fear it could weaken our organization in vital ways.

Although we cannot welcome these new summer teams into our league this season–or even make promises of future involvement–we will be giving our teams the freedom to play them in exhibition matches or tournaments throughout the summer, provided they go through the process set in the MLQ Exhibition Match Policy.
