Two cities were selected in early November as finalists for the 2018 MLQ Championship. Since that announcement, the MLQ team has spent the past month measuring fields, questioning cities and crunching numbers to see which finalist would be the best for the 2018 season-ending tournament.
After completing the process and the analysis that followed, MLQ is thrilled to announce that the 2018 MLQ Championship will be held Aug. 18-19, 2018 in Madison, Wis.
“Madison is everything we could want in a championship location,” commented Co-Commissioner Ethan Sturm. “The city has a long, rich history of hosting sporting events at all levels, and our interactions with the city’s staff have left us confident that they will be just as committed as we are to the success of our championship.”
Throughout the 2018 bid process, which started in September, the Madison Area Sports Commission showed incredible professionalism, excitement and commitment to bringing highly competitive quidditch to Madison.
Madison’s top-notch facilities, cost-effective player resources and the experience of the Madison Area Sports Commission truly made the bid stand out. In addition to the logistical benefits, the 2018 MLQ Championship coincides with a “Pottercon” that is expected to draw countless Harry Potter fans to the area. MLQ is eager to look into potential partnership opportunities to increase spectator attendance.
“Madison is a true sports town, and I am very excited to work with them to put on a great championship,” said MLQ Tournament Coordinator Sequoia Thomas. “We will be working with an extremely experienced team to create an event that showcases the best our sport has to offer and to bring in spectators from all over the greater Madison area.”
More detailed information about tournament format, Stay and Play requirements and facilities will be provided in 2018.
MLQ would also like to thank Tri-Valley, Calif. for their participation in the 2018 bid process. The 2019 MLQ Championship bid process will open in July 2018. If you would like to act as a liaison between MLQ and your local city, email Thomas at [email protected].
