This position reports directly to MLQ’s Marketing Director. The MLQ Editorial Manager is responsible for ensuring that all public-facing writing and communications from MLQ are professional, clearly stated and convey MLQ values and goals. They help control the flow of content to the public, and position MLQ ideas, announcements, plans and opinions in a positive light. The Editorial Manager will work closely with other marketing managers; the MLQ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Department; and the MLQ Commissioners to develop brand strategy and create engaging, informative and forward-thinking written content from MLQ.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Craft thoughtful, timely, and topically-relevant content for the MLQ newsletter and blog that maintains MLQ’s POV.
  • Identify new ways of implementing editorial content and test new methodologies.
  • Establish and maintain a brand voice for MLQ.
  • Create and optimize editorial processes and guidelines for all MLQ departments.
  • Coordinate editorial personnel in developing, strategizing, and finalizing a comprehensive content plan for the year.
  • Build recognition, excitement, and good standing for the league.
  • Work with editorial personnel to develop and manage an overarching calendar.
  • Act as a resource for your team. Guide when help is needed, and learn where learning is needed.
  • Coordinate with MLQ Creative, DEI, Digital Media and other departments as necessary. 
  • Work with other marketing managers to define and optimize the overall MLQ brand strategy.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Copy editing experience required.
  • 1+ years in a leadership role at an organization, job, project or club.
  • Familiarity with various manuals of style (AP, Chicago, etc.) preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of coordinating and motivating multiple writers and editors.
  • Exceptional mastery of the English language. Authoritative understanding of grammar, spelling and phrasing.
  • Google docs proficiency required.
  • Penchant for eloquent, easy-to-read and precise communication.
  • Good judgement.
  • Strong listening and comprehension skills.
