As the MLQ People Operations Director, you will build out and lead the MLQ People Operations team to develop and execute our people strategy, evolve our company culture, and play a critical role in shaping the broader strategy of the organization. You will lead the charge on our efforts to create an inclusive and innovative work culture, with the overarching goal of creating both short and long-term business strategies that attract, retain and grow the best talent for MLQ. You will oversee everything relating to our volunteer, staff, and athlete happiness and engagement at MLQ, and develop guidelines and policies that reflect and support MLQ’s core values and beliefs. This role requires an enormous amount of discretion as well as strong communication and people relations skills. The MLQ People Operations Director will report to MLQ Commissioners Amanda Dallas and Ethan Sturm.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Build and manage a best-in-class team to support growth goals.
• Serve as a trusted resource for all team members to help navigate career development, management, respect in the workplace and communication.
• Oversee the talent acquisition team and work with the MLQ Talent Acquisition Manager and MLQ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director to develop a strategy for recruiting and retaining the best, most diverse and most inclusive talent.
• Build upon company culture to ensure that MLQ values are clearly communicated and embodied, and own culture initiatives including bonding events and other actions to support culture.
• Create and recruit an MLQ Educational Team that will offer the community and interested parties programs and activities to teach and spread the sport of quadball.
• Create and own the company handbook and HR best practices across the organization.
• Measure employee engagement and drive diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Pursuit of–or a degree in–Human Resources or a related field strongly preferred, but not required. Experience may compensate for lack of a specific degree.
• Strong business acumen and problem solving skills.
• High social and emotional intelligence. You truly enjoy cultivating strong relationships with people and helping them grow their careers.
• Flexibility as a leader who can operate at a highly-strategic level, but can also perform tactical HR-related duties for the company.
• Excellent communication skills with strong ability to listen and empathize and handle difficult conversations.
• High degree of comfort working in a team with and influencing other executives.
• Advocates for both the people and for the financial and compliant health of our business, understanding how to balance the two with grace.
• You know your way around technology and have a keen sense of sharing information across multiple departments. We use Google Apps, Slack and are constantly sampling new technology.
