Major League Quidditch and the Boise Grays have arrived at the mutual decision to disband the franchise for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Following reports of both player and referee misconduct at the Boise Grays vs. Salt Lake City series on June 16, MLQ launched an investigation. In addition to collecting statements from various parties in attendance at the series, MLQ and Grays leadership engaged in a series of discussions to determine the fate of the squad. MLQ and the Grays leadership determined the best option for both parties would be to disband the Boise Grays for the remainder of the 2018 season.

In relation to the investigation, MLQ has determined that an assistant referee initiated a brawl that involved two Boise Grays athletes. MLQ strives to ensure that every game played occurs in a safe environment for players, referees and spectators, and thus we do not tolerate altercations of any kind at our events. The referee in question has been banned from participation at any future MLQ events. While this referee was not initially scheduled to be a volunteer for the event, the referee was added to the referee crew after additional referees were deemed to be necessary after game one of the series.

Because the Boise Grays will no longer participate in the rest of this season, no suspensions will be given to any players on the team. However, MLQ would like to reiterate our vehement opposition toward participation in a brawl of any sort and that actions of such nature would result in a suspension in any other situation.

As a result, the Los Angeles Guardians, Salt Lake City Hive and San Francisco Argonauts will now auto-qualify for the 2018 MLQ Championship in Madison, Wis. on Aug. 18-19. Previous games against Boise will not be used to determine seeding for the West teams at MLQ Championship.
