Joshua Mansfield has stepped down from his position as MLQ Gameplay Director. He will remain in the role until MLQ brings on and transitions a new candidate. Mansfield will continue to volunteer for the league as an MLQ gameplay project manager.

Mansfield began volunteering with MLQ in 2015 as a gameplay analyst before becoming the Head of Statistics the next year. In 2017, he was promoted to MLQ Gameplay Director, where he has served until present. In his director role, Mansfield brought many memorable changes to MLQ such as: the creation of the SuperSeries; the adaptation of a league schedule to accommodate a five-team divisional season with a playoff structure; the introduction of the modern MLQ-Specific Rulebook; and safely introducing a two-handed tackling ruleset after successfully playtesting it at different skill levels of quidditch.

“Josh took our league’s gameplay department to new heights in his tenure. He oversaw some of the most important gameplay changes in the history of our sport, including the adoption of the new end game rules and the implementation of two-armed tackling,” said Commissioner Ethan Sturm. “His legacy in the position will last long after he has stepped down.”

Mansfield will continue to work on various gameplay-related projects in his new role as the MLQ Gameplay Project Manager. He will also continue to referee within the league.

“It has been such an honor serving as the MLQ Gameplay Director for these past three years, in large part due to the opportunity I have had to work with some of the most talented volunteers I’ve been privileged to know in my quidditch career,” Mansfield said. “I am excited to see the league continue to improve and develop and look forward to helping it do so in any capacity that I can. At this point, however, I’ve come to realize that I need to make space for others in the community to bring new energy and momentum into the department.”
