Melinda Staup will serve as the new Events Director for MLQ, effective immediately.

Staup has played on Indianapolis Intensity since the inaugural MLQ season and is excited to join the dynamic team of volunteers that comprise the MLQ team.

An alumna of Ball State University, Staup served as the vice president and president of the team during a time when quidditch was beginning to “shed its capes.” Leading Ball State to two World Cup bids, she was a driving force in ushering the Cardinals into the new competitive era of quidditch.

“Staup has all of the qualities–and more–that we were seeking in an events director,” said MLQ Commissioner Amanda Dallas. “She has experience scouting locations, marketing events and leading a group of passionate individuals. Additionally, as an original member of Indianapolis Intensity, she is very familiar with the organization and our goals.”

Staup’s resume includes event and marketing planner for Chreece, a music festival for local artists in Indianapolis, where she made key marketing decisions and negotiated and organized local vendors.

By stepping into the role of MLQ Events Director, Staup is looking forward to growing the marketing aspects of the events department as well as building upon the foundation of success set forth by the previous Events Director, Kara Levis.

“I am excited to join such an outstanding organization. It is my hope that each series will draw a crowd that is excited to cheer on their local team,” Staup said. “And I am looking forward to making MLQ Championship a must-attend event for the quidditch community and beyond.”
